A number of sources seem to give 'Kansuke' as the name of this person (when looking using the kanji given here - although the usual kanji for 'Kansuke' are different), and he is a well-known person from that battle, but it's hard to reconcile that reading with the canonical ones for these characters. Perhaps it is a little-known nickname for him?
